Total nonfarm payroll employment in the U.S. increased very little by 12,000 jobs in October (following an average monthly gain of 194,000 over the prior 12 months). The unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1%. The labor force participation dropped slightly to 62.6% (a decrease of 0.1%). Average hourly earnings rose by 0.4% — over the past 12 months, average hourly earnings have increased by 4%.
