The U.S. unemployment rate unexpectedly jumped up in August — from 3.5% to 3.8% — indicating more people looking for employment. The number of jobs added in August was 187,000, the same as the original number reported for July, but that was corrected to 157,000. The labor force grew by 736,000 people, largely reflecting an increase in people looking for work.
